About Me
Dr. Gerard Joseph Lim

My Core Philosophy
My teaching philosophy is grounded in three principles: agency, inquiry, and
metacognition. I believe that one of the most effective ways to understand the world is by actively
exploring, questioning, and building it. My teaching emphasises creative, hands-on learning, where
students develop understanding through experimentation, design, and iteration. By engaging with
real-world problems, students move beyond memorisation to develop critical thinking, scientific
reasoning, and the confidence to tackle unfamiliar challenges.
Central to this philosophy is fostering a safe and supportive environment where curiosity is encouraged,
questions are welcomed, and mistakes are embraced as opportunities for learning. I strive to cultivate
students' agency by empowering them to take ownership of their learning, make informed decisions, and
develop intellectual independence. Through guided inquiry and constructive feedback, I encourage
students to reflect on their thinking, recognise gaps in their understanding, and adapt their
approaches. Ultimately, my goal is to nurture independent, reflective, and adaptable lifelong learners
who are equipped to navigate an increasingly complex and technologically evolving world.
